The intensity of the harmattan intimacy on our skylines informs us of a nauseating season in our weather. It was an intense contest of ideals, ideas and virtues of quality leadership. And Ghanaians on Wednesday, gave their verdict. The people spoke. Congratulations to all Ghanaians for showing the world we are capable of making decisions without fighting. Congratulations to the President elect William Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo for being courageous and persistent in putting up himself for the race several times. Congratulations to President John Dramani Mahama for gracefully accepting the verdict of the people. Congratulations to the Electoral Commission for refereeing the polls amidst the pressure. Congratulations to the media and all observers for following the process with keen interest. Yes we voted for change in our political leadership, but let this vote inspire an attitudinal, behavioural, systematic, mental and economic change and reform in our country. We all must be ready to support authentic change in every sphere of our engagement. Long live Ghana Long live Afrika.

The frequency in tallying the numbers trickled inn from every part. Officials walked and watched the time of the flow as the night stretched its arms into days, while the agents and the observers refused to blink their eyes. The fatigued smiles of people policing the polls through the tense vigil hours, makes the game interesting. We may hear the affairs of Wednesday in no time, even as the counting trends teases anxiety in our hearts. But wherever or whoever you stand for, remain calm. We have heard and overheard their loud pleas for votes with their various voices. We have listened to their hourly sweet persuasive words and reasons in our cottages, hamlet, villages, ghettos, towns and cities. We debated the possibility and impossibility of their views and propositions. And they all begged for our votes or endorsement after telling us how they uniquely love us, while mocking and exposing the sins of their opponents. But what none of them is telling us is their true motive for seeking power or wanting to stay on in power. "Do your best" is a silent motto some friends shared in the early 90s. It was an interesting evening encounter with a woman in her late 30s yesterday. I was tired after the day's rounds, so I was looking forward to a peaceful journey, when I sat by the woman. Then she dozed off and woke up after 20 minutes complaining of her missing phone. She asked me to assist her with my touch light to search for her phone. I gladly did, but she couldn't find her phone. And since the vehicle was in motion, I advised her to wait and conduct a thorough search when the vehicle stopped at its next stop. She was not pleased and kept theorising why the phone couldn't make noise if it really did fell from her hand onto the floor of the bus. She concluded that I was the one who picked her phone. I decided not to comment, though I took offense to what she said. But the manner in which her sister sitting in front of us agreed with her that I was the culprit in their dialect shocked me. Education without a goal is meaningless. Education without a deliberate attempt to form a good people is a failure. Education without the right moral keys to direct our affairs is a disaster. Education without the right content to inspire a people to love and serve the good of a nation is a nonstarter. Education that only focuses on success without the necessary tools to examine our shortcomings, and think of finite ways of addressing our odd ways is problematic. Education that makes us dependent on pamphlets, handouts and makes us first grade copycats is not only worrying but dehumanising. Once upon a time, in the late 50s a missionary's desire to serve the health needs of a people in remote areas somewhere in Ghana brought him and his collaborators to the heart of a village. They left their comfort zones miles away in order to put smiles on many faces. Through courageous faith and consistent efforts of the pacesetters, as well as the commitment and support of the people at every stage, the facility became a big three that offered healing, compassion and love, training/education, employment, experience and an environment for people to live and grow. It is interesting how yours sincerely, also had the benefit of enjoying the shades and fruits of this project of the missionaries many years on. We have certain things we fear in life. But it's interesting how we continue to fear and worship the fatigued clichés of life and death, while pretending to be champions. It's funny how our romantic answers, still tease the correct lies in our friendly facts. It's funny how our diplomatic appropriateness still betray the careless whispers behind closed doors. It's intriguing how we allow the fear of trivial things to bastardize our peace. Fear can defeat us long before we fail. Fear is a terrible enemy to our progress. So fear not but cultivate a reverent fear for Yahweh your God, and keep walking on the good path. Revere His glory and His awesome nature every day and night. Rationally it's good to question why things happen the way they do. Academically it's stimulating to engage our mental faculties to understand why things happen the way they do. Humanly speaking it's interesting how we excessively complain, nag, lament or even apportion blame on others for causing strange things that happen in our lives and in our society. As righteous as he was, Job also lamented about his predicament. And the LORD addressed Job out of the storm and said: ``Have you ever in your lifetime commanded the morning and shown the dawn its place, For taking hold of the ends of the earth, till the wicked are shaken from its surface?"(see Job 38:1,12-21). As a loving God, who created us in His image, we cannot understand every happening in this life but He reminds us of our worth to overcome the challenges we have allowed to molest us. Legends are born in every generation. Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was one of them and you are the other legend yet to be discovered.  It's true Dr. Nkrumah understood his call and worked towards it. And even with such exceptional qualities, and God's favour, he still needed to work with people to attain the level of development he brought to Ghana and the consciousness he raised among Afrikans and the world at large. People are important in every progress march, that's why I still believe in you as a capable member of this progressive force. And I have no doubt in my mind that we are a blessed but strange people. I have never doubted in our collective ability to do great things. Aaah! Is it lunch time already? How come runs so fast of late? Talking about lunch breaks, brought back some memories of yesteryear. So it happened that an 11-year old Kalu was going to take his lunch at home several years ago. After fetching his food, he yielded to the temptation to fetch more soup from the reserve soup for their supper and perhaps fish for more meat. He gently closed the door, looked left, right and at his back to ensure there was no intruder, before setting out to fish in the soup pot. But interestingly he forgot to look up to see whether God was watching and even ignored the warning from his conscience not to do it. So Kalu starting using the ladle to search for more meet and got some. He was busily taking the meat, when luck run out on him. He was caught by his mother right in the act and you just imagine beatings and the shame on his face. It also happens in our lives. Our eyes stream with hope every morning, the same way our hearts glow with renewed zeal each day. This is because our God is more than able to take care of us and able to fulfil our needs. What are your cares and worries? What are your challenges and needs? What's the trouble caressing your thoughts? Cast your burden unto the Lord. Look up to Him who holds the manual to your life. With the pouring of these showers, may God water the good seeds in our hearts and hopes to bear worthy fruits. May Yahweh's legion of Angels never pass you by today as they distribute blessings. We ain't safe if we continue abuse the goodness of the Lord. We ain't safe if we allow the pleasures of strange gods to confuse us. We ain't safe, if we continue to deceive ourselves, murder truth and virtue of the sages and sacrifice our souls for materials gains. It is a fact we all have interesting intents interacting with our interests. It is a fact we evolve strategic schemes and stands to justify our strange stakes. But in all these happenings, Prophet Jeremiah reminds us to Reform our ways and deeds so that Yahweh may remain with us (Ref to Jer. 7:3-7). It is still worthy trusting the Lord, instead of putting our trust in deceitful words and ways of the world. Be on guard in all your dealings, and be inspired to embrace through reform and change.
