The Friday assembly was rare in our basic school. And the thought of the weekend around the corner increased our anxiety. So in no time, the assembly ground was packed with anxious pupils. We were at the back playing our mischief when my name was mentioned among other boys. You can imagine the look on my face and the thought running through my mind. I panicked and started thinking through the defence I will be giving to any charges. I managed to say a prayer to God to forgive me and mitigate any punishment. I reluctantly walked to the front while looking on the floor as if trying to find a lost coin. Our headmaster cleared his throat and greeted the school in his usually strict voice and started his chorus of what we ought to do right.
