Several years ago, we the lucky ones selected to march for our school on the Independence Day Parade were very anxious to meet this day. We rehearsed and rehearsed. Yours sincerely even harassed Mama to buy those white socks and tasked her to mend my black shoes for the Day. We were more concern to showcase our marching skills, that I couldn't pay much attention when my stomach rumbled, signalling it needed fuel. And after managing to march, our DCE who took the salute, had a rather long speech that took ages to render. We were tired and some of my colleagues collapsed. Yes, they did. The water they gave us wasn't enough to quench my hunger, so I sneaked out of the queue to buy some ice-cream but I was caught and I guess that's why I never got selected to march in subsequent years.
