How long have we been marching? Why must we always march past, to commemorate our independence? Is marching the only way to celebrate our partial political independence? What is it about our independence that still makes us depend on our colonisers for virtually everything? Why can't we see beyond the funfair of this day and look at the exploitative trends in the structure we've inherited? So what's so independent about our independence, when we still go out there seeking the deceptive approval of others about the efforts we're making here, before we know we're doing well or otherwise? What's it about us that makes us accept the standards of others as the best, when we're supposed to set high standards for ourselves? What's so independent about us, when our greed is terribly bleeding our economy?
