WHISPERS OF INSPIRATION

You may not have it all in life, but your little daily effort is commendable. It is true your employers can't pay you the satisfactory fee you deserve for all the efforts you bring to bear in your work. Your wage, salary, stipend, allowance, upkeep money or alimony may not always commensurate with the energy you bring in the discharge of your duties, roles and efforts. But tell you what, YOU, yes You are worth celebrating today. I mean your contribution to human progress is worth recognising. I admire the energy and commitment you infuse in your work and the efforts you apply to get things done. I appreciate your dedication to keep walking, in spite of the difficulties, challenges, backbiting, the pull-him-down syndrome, the sly conspiracies and the sneaky insubordination as well as the disappointments you may encounter or suffer in your efforts to make progress. It's refreshing to know people care. It's interesting to know and not even know that someone out there still prays for you. It's humbling and sometimes embarrassing how people value and believe in you even when you're not at your best. It's sometimes invigorating knowing that some people are willing to sacrifice and go the extra mile to ensure we're able to attain our goals or enjoy some comfort. To all those who stoke fire in our dreams, provoked the passion in us and even spent precious time and resources to see us through that phase or project; To the many people who still found reason not to give up on us, but walked with us and offered a helping hand during those barren seasons; we cannot erase or forget your deed. In this calm evening moments, I'd like us to just make time to sincerely thank all these wondrous souls, including those who disliked and deliberately made situations uncomfortable for us. Was it the nature of history we disliked or liked to disregard? Was the teaching and learning of the subject that boring that we preferred speaking about the present and a hopeful future? A memory of two decades breathed into the pipes of the present. And Oh! It's February again. A cheerful dream stoked the steam in us to live, but never had it occurred to me then that there's going to be such a reflection in this month. With the gift of grace, accompanied by people, we can hopefully smile to the distant mile. There are countless caregivers, relations, teachers, mentors, benefactors, peers and people we encounter through the changing scenes of time and season. For all His grace for us; For all the gifts and opportunities He gives us to live through these minutes, hours, days, weeks, months; For all His blessings from January to December, For all the friends and family He surrounds us with; What can we say to this wondrous Giver of Life? What can we say to this awesome God, ever rich in mercies? What can we say in our Praises and Thanksgiving to the Holy One? All too soon, we are at the end of another, and gradually inching to a new year. Let us join the Psalmist (Ps.137) to recount the deeds of the Lord in our lives. Let us remember Yahweh’s goodness to us and duly Thank Him. Even as we desire to know Him through our reflections on the Words of Sacred Scriptures, may we also be enlightened like St. Jerome to be nourished and filled by the fount of Life oozing from its rich reserve. As King Artaxerxes granted what Prophet Nehemiah asked (Neh.2:1-8), may God also grant in abundance all you asked and those you have not even asked. M

A wind clothed with the wrinkles of work wondered away. Thinking through the zealous takeover in Zimbabwe, the streaming of the working budget as well as the overwhelming floods in Greece, we still live with hope. Gratitude is not enough to express my appreciation to God, who blessed us with the gift of LIFE. Thanksgiving is not enough to thank this generous God for bringing us this far. Your footprints are imprinted on the hearts of many in different places. Your generosity to mankind has blessed many with dignifying smiles. With feeble effort the frailties of the vulnerable, the infants, and the sick hangs in the balance. Although God certainly is our help and health, their role to our survival is very critical. The efforts of our traditional midwives or 'midhusbands' (Traditional Birth Attendants), and our professional Midwives, as well as the tender care of mothers through ages. The doctoring of Doctors in time of sickness or accidents and the commitment of our nurses nursing the pains of our gains with grains of inspirations is commendable. The efforts of the orderlies, cooks, security guards, administrators, drivers (ambulance drivers) engineers and Mortuary men who ensure our survival or passage here all deserve a special mention today. So to the caregivers who toil day and night to take care of our health; To the caregivers who tender our farms to ensure we get our food from the market; To the caregivers who prepare delicious meals for us, and all others whose little great efforts m

In the process of living, we encounter, relate and interact with many people who impart on our lives. This gives credence to the axiom that behind any successful man, there are supportive people. Truth is that behind any progressive person or a successful individual, are people (parents, relatives, friends, teachers, mentors, enemies, orderlies etc), who assist, challenge, encourage, mentor, support, listen, push, provoke and advise us to improve. There are countless others out there who qualify to be identified, acknowledged and celebrated. You are one of them, I still admire. They come with unique names, at different times and in diverse spaces. They come with various styles and demeanour. And they also have feelings, biases, idiosyncrasies and thoughts. We may not always like their approach in dealing with us. We may not always admire the way they tried correcting our incorrectness. We may not even approve the way they taunted our mischievous tendencies. But can we say with all honesty, that they didn't perform their task well? Some of these teachers are our parents, catechists, tutors, lecturers, priests, pastors, imams, community leaders, friends, children, elders, our enemies, God the Almighty and our natural environment. Undoubtedly they all qualify as our teachers, in how they directly or indirectly affected a nd helped us in learning new things.
