In Every Meal

Can you imagine a hungry man smiling?
Can the army march on an empty stomach to war?
Or can we afford to make merry when hungry?
It's a fact that almost all of us need some food.
Yes! We mostly must eat something to grow.
We all must feed ourselves to get the needed energy to perform our daily tasks.

But in the preparation of every meal, we often forget the farmer who tilled the land and planted the food.
We sometimes forget the people involved in the food chain of process, before for our mothers, wives, and caterers to buy the foodstuffs.
It's a fact that we seldom acknowledge our farmers and everyone involved in carting the goods to our various market centres.

It's sad how we lowly reward these farmers through whose toil and efforts these foods grow.
It's unjust how we collectively allowed the middlemen to continue to shortchange our farmers year-in-year-out.
And it's appalling how some youth are shunning agriculture due to its unattractive state.
However, what we haven't considered much is that in every meal there is a price of gratitude we owe our farmers.
In every good meal, we are served today, there's a depth of appreciation our farmers should take.
Anytime a meal is served we have a duty to think of how we can individually celebrate our farmers.

Any moment we are tempted to waste food, let's think of the efforts of our farmers that went into producing the food and how the food could quench the hunger of someone out there.
It's significant to remember our Farmers not only when we are saying the prayer before our meals but to advocate for them to be valued.
Therefore before giving all the credit to our mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, and caterers for cooking the delicious meals, they serve us, our farmers also deserve to be acknowledged.
To our Farmers and those involved in the food chain process, I say 'Ahekoo'.
And to the One who watches over these farms and monitors the growth of these foodstuffs, we are eternally grateful.
Greetings
