Stay Positive

Chronic or constant stress has gained notoriety in our society today.

Stress from noises from our streets, market centres and churches; the daily heavy vehicular traffic on our roads, coupled with stress from our relationships, or from heavy workload, and stress exacerbated by the frustration from our institutions and systems, as well as pressures or demands from our society to do this or that,  subtly affect our wellbeing.

For some time now, our weekends are no longer suitable for relaxation, neither are the numerous holidays enough for our relaxation. This is because of our numerous social commitments. It is therefore common to see the average Ghanaian worker already tired on Mondays of all days.

In fact, from our current social arrangements, it's becoming impossible to escape stress, which follows us everywhere we go, due to our many engagements.

Interestingly, Healthbeat (a publication by Harvard University) reports that stress triggers a wide range of health issues, including mood swings, sleep disorders, loss of appetite, heart disease and even hasten our death (emphasis are mine).

So what should we do to stay positive?

Now we know that stress does not only trigger health condition in our lives but affects our entire well-being.
But must we allow these stubborn stressors to still stress and ruin our lives and health on smiling Saturdays and Sundays?

Let's endeavour to stay positive, even as we take a walk in our thoughts, and in our surroundings to relieve some burdens from our minds.
Perhaps we can also exercise to stay active, maintain a healthy weight, and melt away some of our stress.

We should try to laugh and smile a lot in order to kill or reduce our stress levels.

Likewise, we must strive to find time to meditate and practice an inward-focused thought and deep breathing to reduce our stress. This is because meditation (peaceful or soulful prayer) can also help relax our minds and bodies.

Sometimes, we have to gently avoid our phones, the media, our emails, and take some time, at least 10-15 minutes each day, to escape from the world and reconnect with ourselves.

To de-stress and relax our bodies or minds this weekend, please let's eliminate any bad feeling from our hearts and just sleep like babies and be at peace with ourselves.

We could also read some good books while listening to inspiring soulful music or we could rise to watch how the sun majestically walks out of the sheet of clouds to announce this new day.

Have a great weekend.

Greetings
