Independent Thought

How long have we been marching?
Why must we always march past, to commemorate our independence?
Is marching the only way to celebrate our partial political independence?

What is it about our independence that still makes us depend on our colonisers for virtually everything?
Why can't we see beyond the funfair of this day and look at the exploitative trends in the structure we've inherited?

So what's so independent about our independence, when we still go out there seeking the deceptive approval of others about the efforts we're making here, before we know we're doing well or otherwise?
What's it about us that makes us accept the standards of others as the best, when we're supposed to set high standards for ourselves?
What's so independent about us, when our greed is terribly bleeding our economy?
Of what use is our independence, if all we do is to expect aids, freebies, grants, and handouts from our so-called partners?

Why should our independence not help us rethink ways of stopping these excessive borrowing trend?
Why can't we do things differently to sustain our growth?
Why can't we care a bit more about the vulnerable, marginalised, sick and invalid in our society?

If our independence cannot heal our EXCESSIVE dependence on others, then it's better we stopped deceiving ourselves about this independence thing.
If our independence cannot help cure the sins of our INDIFFERENCE, NEGLIGENCE and GREED, then we are better off not celebrating this day.

But of the many faces of people standing in this space and time,
Of the many toils of our ancestors lying beneath the soil on which we walk,
And in the hope of a yet to thrive generation in the thoughts of a future we talk and anticipate, I still see a warm possibility of growth.

However, to advance in attaining our desires, we still need to rethink the faulty lines in the foundation of our reality, and institute lasting measures to cater for the well-being of our people.

We must be ready to STOP pampering the naughtiness of our love ones and praise the good deeds of our perceive enemies.

We must be ready to work together in UNITY and with a COMMON PURPOSE to advance the well-being of the people in Afrika at large.

We have no excuse to fail in this duty, because this is the core of our being a great people with the resilience to do whatever good we want to for the total well-being of Afrika and the world at large.
God bless us all.
