Dear Friday evening, I am so glad we are back together again and reminiscing these unique humbling moments. I am glad you are always present every weekend, with your calm but firm thoughts. I am sorry you are seeing the traces of our sweaty-teary looks which Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, (MTWT siblings) didn't care to whittle down. But I swear you were always on our mind as we missed you. Thank you for coming despite the blurring displeasure of the MTWT siblings. Oh! Fair Friday, as you kindle family reunion and host many with the solidarity emblem in delight and sorrow; please be kind to console those mourning. And gently guide the members of Saint Francis and Glasses Association not to overindulge and miss their way home. Please tell your brothers Saturday and Sunday to extend this weekend and not to hasten things. And kindly spare us the attacks of our friendly enemies of the Amosquitoes of the 5th Battalion. There is a series of seemingly small positive developments in our lives that adds up to something heartwarming and reassuring. And an appreciation of these small mercies and small steps that account for the progress made in certain areas of our lives is appropriate. It's in line with this that we are required to express GRATITUDE to the Most High for his countless mercies in our lives.  The attitude of gratitude for the numerous moments of mercies, graces, blessings and even challenges is in order. Permit me to also acknowledge YOU (including your forebears and collaborators), for your prayers, support, goodwill, time and suggestion. Thank you for tolerating and believing in us. Never underestimate the strength and wonders in your dreams and efforts.  Never take for granted the power of positive conviction and believe in one's capabilities.  Never take for granted the fact that you can walk and talk.  Never take for granted the fact that you have life.   Never take for granted the effect of your care and motivation.  As long as you live, appreciate the gift of life.  As long as you live,  revere the giver of Life. As long as you relate with others, value and respect all your relationships with man, and your environment. God bless you this day.

With the bumpy economic currents, It is understandable why the fanfare is cool and calm. But since a celebration is a celebration, And our Fathers are our fathers, It's proper to applaud and acknowledge our Fathers for their important role. You might have heard some of the adjectives. We know the strange sound of some of the accolades.  We are even told some fathers are experts at goal scoring, while others too are active providers, protectors and pacesetters. We are also reminded of some fantastic, loving but absentee fathers who have vacated their posts, and those who generously missed the green smiles of our growth. Time and again, we hear of fathers whose gallant toils and tears still stir us to sail. While some have long kissed the ghostly ashes of eternity.  Some still stand like pillars of discipline and foundation in our lives, while others still inspire fear through their uncompromising postures and fiats. Several swift Saturday shadows swam this sway, Switching the shades of sage to sing saturated songs on the soft streets of Saturday again. The stability in the day summoned the spirit of sobriety to sweep the same subtle shadows of another evening. What we are experiencing in terms of desertification, land degradation, and droughts, is much worse, largely due to human activities. Recent statistics of droughts in the horn of Africa, part of East, Central and West Africa are frightening. The testimonies of floods in Mozambique, South Africa and Accra, Ghana tells us the effects. This points to a precarious future for our society in the areas of food security,  water shortages, hunger and human survival if we do not take timely action.  The theme of today's World Day of Combating Desertification and Drought Day: “Rising from drought together” is an URGENT call for us to tackle desertification and drought. We can effectively address this through a people approach aimed at strengthening community participation and cooperation at all levels to mitigate the effect.
