Save the Earth

What we are experiencing in terms of desertification, land degradation, and droughts, is much worse, largely due to human activities. Recent statistics of droughts in the horn of Africa, part of East, Central and West Africa are frightening. The testimonies of floods in Mozambique, South Africa and Accra, Ghana tells us the effects. This points to a precarious future for our society in the areas of food security,  water shortages, hunger and human survival if we do not take timely action.  The theme of today's World Day of Combating Desertification and Drought Day: “Rising from drought together” is an URGENT call for us to tackle desertification and drought. We can effectively address this through a people approach aimed at strengthening community participation and cooperation at all levels to mitigate the effect. And we can not fail in performing this needful task of saving nature to serve us.  Each of us needs to be mindful and conscious of this reality which should feed into our

Many MAY Marvels

Sometime in May we mimic some musicians; Sometime in May, we moved with moments; Sometime in May, we mock the missive mints.  We met many  people with May markers; We made merry with our mothers &  mums; We minimise most major momo overtures.  Maybe it's not just a month of methods; Maybe it's not just a matter of miles; Maybe it's not just a member's memory.  But in between the mild makeshift moments of May; In between the modest margins of out measures;  In between the main market manoeuvres of May,  Maybe we should mark our Makers magnanimity, By mirroring the magnificate of this memorable May. With these many millions of marching minutes, I trust you had a memorable May?  May it be well with you and your family 🌹🌸🌺 Greetings from me to you ©KYB ✍🏿31/05/22

These are not the usual nicknames of some people, but the Baptismal names of some Migratory Fish Species swimming in the Black Volta Basin of Ghana. According to the 2020 Living Planet Index (LPI) for Migratory Freshwater Fish, there is in 76% average decline in these fishes migrating. And some of the fish species are endangered along their migratory routes. There are indications that the migratory fish that visits the  1,352 km Black Volta river, has declined. Researcher

Stop Food Wastage

Image
It's estimated that 45% of root crops, fruit, and vegetables produced globally are wasted per year. The forecast of 25% of food produced globally feeding 795 million hungry people in the world hurts our collective wellbeing. With these percentages and the looming food crisis occasioned by the Russian- Ukraine war, there is a need for significant efforts to arrest the food waste epidemic staring at us. As we mark the 'Stop Food Waste Day' may we adopt practical ways to farm, produce, purchase and reduce food wastage in our homes. Perhaps we could: √A void buying more food than you need √Store food correctly √Preserve our leftovers √Blend those that you can √Keep your serving size in check √Understand the expiration date of food. √Use the FIFO (First In, First Out) style √Compost if you can Food waste is a bigger problem than we realise. But t here are endless ways we can adopt to preserve, reduce, reuse and recycle food to STOP Food wasta
