Subtle Intent

The waves keeps coming & coming.
The breeze keeps blowing & blowing.
Their styles keep swinging & shifting.
And some of our own keep betraying & betraying.
But their schemes are very much alive.

Indeed, not everyone who smiles is a friend.
Not everyone who speak truth is an enemy.
Some friends are very deliberate and strategic.
While others with permanent interest still live.

Have we forgotten we were the uncivilized race?
Have we forgotten their pledged to civilize us?
Have we forgotten how our dignity was dented?
Have we forgotten how our identity was smeared?

But remember their subtle comings.
Remember their exotic god & how they fought us.
Remember their enticing mirror & gin traps.
Remember the demeaning episodes of yesterday.
Remember their cunning defiant machines.

So after disturbing our order,
After whipping most of us to be in order,
And after helping us mimic their ways,
Somehow many have become desperate beggars,
And mostly confused with multiple identities.
Today, we have seen our nakedness and the erosion of our Cultural values.
And most of our apostles & disciples,
Most of our trusted servants are disappointing.

But with these witty confusing winds,
Blowing in these sociocultural circuses,
Can we survive the gregarious onslaught?
Can we leap over the serious latent Intents?
Can our moral virtues survive these interests?
Can we still survive these tricky trends?

Maybe, if only we were a bit honest to ourselves;
If only we could be a little truthful to our identity;
If only we could deeply reflect comprehensively;
Maybe if we could read between the lines & listen more vertically and horizontally;
Perhaps we could understand these subtle schemes of ages & decode the subtle intents.
Maybe we could know how to better adjust our sails and do the needful things we ought to do to save our souls.

May Atibluku, Ŋnonmoɔ, Odumankuma, Mawusógbolisa, Mmɛnni, Nawuni ... and the Most High watch over you.
